USS Independence

The USS Independence is the designated support ship for Gateway Station, a starbase on the Federation’s Beta Quadrant border with the territories of the fallen Romulan Star Empire. Gateway is charged with maintaining regional stability, from protecting Federation interests and reaching out to Romulan territories, particularly the allied people of the Romulan Republic. The starbase’s fleet of runabouts and smallcraft is sufficient for many of these duties, but established pirate groups and increased aggression from the Klingon Empire has necessitated the tactical bolstering of the Midgard Sector’s forces. Independence acts as Gateway’s patrol vessel, responsible for scouting and reconnaissance activities, border interdiction, and providing escort to humanitarian and diplomatic outreach missions.

Gateway Station Squadron
Gateway Station is based in the Midgard Sector, on the Federation’s border with the Romulan Republic and independent territories. The starbase and its supporting starships are charged with upholding Federation interests and regional stability in the Midgard Sector. This includes diplomatic and humanitarian operations, border patrol and law enforcement, as well as surveying the under-explored and poorly charted reaches of former Romulan or Neutral Zone space. Increased colony expansion in, and potentially beyond, the Federation border, the developing relationship with the Romulan Republic, and the encroaching threat of the Klingon Empire all promise to keep this a challenging frontier.
