USS Healdsburg | 1600 Hours | Sickbay

The hum of Sickbay is usually calming, but today it feels strangely suffocating. I’ve never been one to get nervous on a mission, but there’s something about this one that’s… unsettling.

“We’re nearing the Vaadwaur outpost, and I’ve been keeping a close eye on the crew. Medical scans are fine for the most part, but there’s an underlying tension that I can’t shake. Even the most routine injuries seem to take longer to heal than they should. I’m not sure if it’s stress or something else, but we’re all on edge. I can see it in their eyes—everyone knows this mission is a bit more complicated than the briefing suggests.

It’s been a quiet day so far in Sickbay, thankfully, but with the mission about to take a turn, I can’t help but feel like something’s coming. I don’t know if it’s the memories of previous missions, the weight of what’s happening on the Vaadwaur outpost, or the strange readings that are popping up on my scans, but I’m on high alert.

I’ve heard rumors about the Vaadwaur before—ancient, elusive, and dangerous. We know they’re a potential threat to Federation operations, but I don’t think anyone really knows what we’re dealing with here. I’ve never met anyone who’s come back from an encounter with them unscathed. I’ll admit, I’m a little worried about how this will unfold. We’re so far from home, and if things go wrong… I have to be prepared. The crew depends on me to keep them healthy, physically and mentally. It’s my job to keep them together, no matter what.

There’s also the added stress of our crew’s recent physical condition. I’ve noticed some symptoms that don’t quite add up—fatigue, dizziness, mild nausea… nothing major, but I’m keeping track. At this stage, it’s still nothing to panic about. It could be just the long hours and the intensity of the mission, but with the way things are shaping up, I can’t afford to take chances.

Katie Harlow, our newest security officer, stopped by earlier. She seemed concerned—maybe a little too concerned for someone who’s just joined. She mentioned some strange symptoms in the crew, but I wasn’t ready to say much yet. I don’t want to add to the anxiety. But, she’s right to worry. If something’s wrong, if there’s something we don’t know about the outpost or the Vaadwaur, we need to find it now, before it’s too late.

I just hope I’m overthinking it. I’m not usually one to second-guess myself, but this mission feels different. Something’s off.

I need to remain calm, keep my focus. There’s no room for uncertainty when lives are on the line. But I won’t ignore my instincts either. We need to be ready for whatever’s coming.

End log.”

I definitely think the personal log is underutilized and storytelling, cuz sometimes and especially in this particular case it can move the story forward without having to need the full crew in order to move it forward. I appreciate that I think you did a great job here.
