Task Force 72 Report #9

December 14, 2024

INTRODUCTION

by Commander Trevenan Williams, TF72XO

Task Force 72 has been embracing a period of change and rising to develop the opportunities it brings. With the sure hand of the BFXO, Admiral Liam Dahlgren (David), at the helm as TFCO, the TFSS has been focusing on processing awards and promotions and welcoming a shuttle–load of new members to replenish our ranks.

Key to the success of this experience has been the appointment of our new TGCO, Lieutenant Commander Micheal Dart, whose ready humor and near-encyclopedic passion for all things Star Trek has laid out the welcome wagon for our new cadets. So, without further ado, let’s stroll around the TF72 lounge and see what’s been shaking with the 72’ers!

TASK FORCE REPORTS

by Commander Trevenan Williams, TF72XO

Following our last report, Admiral Liam Dahlgren (David) has been taking the Task Force to task and cleaning the decks regarding our membership roster—ensuring that every member’s service jacket has been reviewed and their promotion and awards status has been updated. With Lieutenant Commander Micheal Dart (@forthehordekt on Discord) joining the TFSS in the role of Task Group Commanding Officer to TG101, this has been a valuable opportunity for Mike to get to grips with the levers that make the Task Force tick, and he has taken to the task like a Ferengi to a Dabo table!

In addition to learning the intricacies of command, Mike has brought his dauntless energy and positive energy to the TF72 Lounge and has been instrumental in creating member competitions and applying his awesome knowledge of Trek Trivia to breathe new life into the weekly T’Poll! For those of you who are considering assisting Bravo Fleet in the capacity of a TGCO, we heartily recommend that you reach out to Mike to learn more about this fun and rewarding role!

With so many new members joining us, the TFSS has been busy helping our bright new stars through the Cadet ranks and the brilliant offerings that are hosted by the dedicated staff at the Bravo Fleet Academy. In the last quarter, we have welcomed the following to our lounge:

  •       Cadet Junior Grade John Ellis Bonnet             (Deputy_B on Discord)
  •       Cadet Freshman Grade Breannan DeBosco         (brandokazooi22 on Discord)
  •       Cadet Freshman Grade Ishe Jos                           (plainsimplegarak.onDiscord)
  •       Cadet Freshman Grade Raven                             (ravensake on Discord)
  •       Cadet Sophomore Grade Kirok Skyrunner           (grim_reaper1110on Discord)
  •       Cadet Junior Grade Manuel Vulmar                       (tolkinn on Discord)
  •       Cadet Sophomore Grade Pyrro                             (brightwings_ on Discord)
  •       Cadet Freshman Grade Chen Linge                     (chen_linge on Discord)
  •       Cadet Senior Grade Tiha Roayru                           (johnny_cache4201on Discord)

This quarter has also seen the launch of Bravo Fleet’s latest campaign event, where members of TF72 have been challenged to embrace their darker side as Bravo Fleet grapples with the extralegal and delves below the respectable veneer of Federation – life to encounter the treacherous denizens of the underworld as the destruction wrought by Frontier Day and the aftermath of The Labyrinth test Starfleet’s ability to keep check of the rampant crime that has rushed to capitalize on the Chaos.

So, without further ado, let’s catch up with our Members’ commands and see what our intrepid explorers have been up to – before, during, and after the nefarious underworld events of The Devil to Pay!

FICTION UPDATES

by Commander Trevenan Williams, TF72XO

Task Group 101

USS Fresno

Workaday engineering missions are the mainstay of the rugged California-class utility cruiser, USS Fresno, so when Captain Mike Dart and his crew are dispatched to Pieris IV to assist the research colony there with its technical problems, the web of extralegal intrigue that they become ensnared into, sees the crew plunged into the middle of a smuggling ring and compelled to take a walk on the wild-side themselves as they strive to recover dangerous technology that was stolen from the Daystrom Institute during the confusion of Frontier Day. A must for ‘lovers’ of Klingon Opera (somebody must be, right?), join the resourceful crew aboard the tough, old ship named after “The Big Raisin” as they experience the adventure that is Shaken, and Stirred

USS Cantabras

Whilst no recent contact has been established with the Raven-class corvette, USS Cantabras, confidence is high the Commander Alex Benson and his capable crew will send word from the Arcania Cluster – where we last caught up with her crew as they investigated The Signal originating from a long-abandoned space station and our thoughts and prayers are with them for a safe voyage home.

USS Cupertino

One of the hardest-working utility cruisers in the task force, the California-class USS Cupertino farewells Captain Kahi Jurev and welcomes new Captain Molly Leonis to the “Big Chair.” As the Cupertino takes on a new crew and prepares to hit the space lanes once again, it can only be a matter of time until this doughty vessel with a proud heritage is again the subject of lively gossip and conjecture in the task force lounge.

Task Group 99

Galaxy Explorer Division

USS Galaxy

After sustaining significant damage in The Labyrinth, the USS Galaxy finds itself laid – over at Starbase 72 whilst it undergoes repairs and replenishment of her crew complement. As CO of the original Galaxy-class explorer, Captain Clara Myers is keenly aware that her vessel is an important figurehead of not only the diplomatic efforts to balance peace between opposing factions such as the Talarians, Ferengi, Cardassian Union, and the Romulan Republic but also that, together with the USS Resnik, the martial capability of the Galaxy Explorer Division may just represent the balancing force between that peace and a Wicked World.

USS Resnik

Whilst her sister ship languishes in spacedock, Captain Anna Caldwell and the crew of the Gagarin-class heavy escort, USS Resnik, come to realize the harsh reality that Everything Flows & Nothing Abides. Whilst undertaking her shakedown cruise, Captain Caldwell must pull together a temporary crew to investigate a shadowy underworld doyenne know simply as the “Governess” and soon uncover that, along with the Orion Syndicate, a powerful technology stolen from the Daystrom Institute during the chaos on Frontier Day—one that can contain, harness, and even make use of the most powerful and dangerous substances in the known galaxy. Only by infiltrating the Grand Ball, can the crew of the Resnik hope to win the race against time and secure the technology from falling into the wrong hands.

USS Albion

When Special Services Crewman Kennedy Zhao stuck a Faustian bargain with the resourceful Orion Syndicate operative, D’Taani Varada, to avenge a fallen colleague from the USS Savannah, she was betrayed and framed for a murder she did not commit. Her former CO, Commander Samantha Hyland (now XO of the USS Albion) is blackmailed by Varada to infiltrate the Daystrom Institute and steal the data behind the Genesis Particle from their own people – all so D’Taani can sell Project Genesis to the highest bidder and remove a death mark placed upon her head by the psychotic Orion Syndicate Underboss, Shadreck Deen.

But, as with most things relating to the treacherous green barkeeper, Varada’s plan is revealed to mask her true intent—a coup d’etat designed to decapitate the heads of not just the Orion Syndicate, but several other extra-legal underworld organisations in one ambitious and murderous stroke—events that leave Sam wondering if she really is better off with The Devil you Know

 CONCLUSION

by Admiral Liam Dalhgren, TF72CO

This has been a transitionary period for Task Force 72, both in terms of the upper leadership and in terms of our membership. With several transfers out and a slew of new members, we’re engaged in rebuilding. I want to especially thank James and Mike for their work during the last quarter, particularly in their work to keep the task force lounge a vibrant and active place to hang out. Task Force 72 is the unit that I’ll always have a soft spot for. It was my first unit as a member back in the early 2000s, and my first unit as a staffer circa 2006ish. I have every confidence that we’ll continue the long-standing traditions of big blue well into the future.
