Intelligence Office Report #4 – New Staff and What’s Next?

The dust has settled on the supremely successful writing events that were part of the Fleet Action: Nightfall. I know you’re all just about rested, recovered, and eager to drive forward. So let’s do so!

New Deputy

Recruiting for the Intelligence Office, particularly at a senior level, is very hard. It takes more than just a writer, but someone who understands how Bravo Fleet storytelling works; how to develop world-building that drives the narratives of others, and how to come up with plots and ideas which members can use as a springboard for their own missions and arcs. This is no mean feat, so I hope you’re all as excited as by the addition of a new IO staffer who does get it. Please join me in welcoming Captain Cressida Brennan as the new Deputy Intelligence Officer!

She and I have already been talking about what’s in the pipeline. You can expect the usual level of IO activities and storytelling prompts, but we’re looking for more direct engagement, more direct support for collaboration. This may take the form of joint posts and facilitating link-ups between members, but also dynamic storytelling where your missions have impact and ripples. I’m very excited to see what we can do for you. Congratulations, Captain!

Shore Leave Campaign

I’ve talked a lot about the next IO campaign: Shore Leave (which started out a working title, but… here we are!). This year, the IO is trying to do more low-intensity writing events of different genres and types, and that’ll include Shore Leave, focused, as it sounds, on the ships and crews of the Fourth Fleet getting some downtime. Sounds simple? It is, but it’s also a great chance for worldbuilding in the Federation interior, including in places we last saw beset by the Vaadwaur. It’s a great chance for character-focused stories, developing relationships and adding emotional depth as crews get a chance for a breather. There’ll be the usual storytelling support: a briefing, campaign tables. I also hope it’s a good opportunity for more collaboration, where members can write together and build connections between their characters, without the obligation of committing to completing a whole, intense mission together.

Who knows, we might even see some chances for task force staff and captains to bond…?

The sharp-eyed among you may have seen this, but now I confirm: Shore Leave will begin Saturday July 12th, and run for 4 weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting updates in coming weeks! Until then, write, plan, and be merry, and remember: the 2402 BFC Mission is always live, keeping you abreast of what’s going on in the galaxy if you’re trawling for story ideas.
