BFXO Report #27 — BFCO Confirmation Update

April 29, 2025

Every twelve months, Bravo Fleet Command engages in the re-confirmation of the Bravo Fleet Commanding Officer. During this process, members of the BFC ask the BFCO about their plans for the upcoming year. This process is one of the most important tasks of Bravo Fleet Command as a body, as it is one of the only things that requires a vote in Bravo Fleet’s governance. As has been the case for the past several years, we have engaged in the confirmation process well in advance of the expiration of the BFCO’s term, which ends on June 14th, 2025. In this case, we did so to keep the BFC from having to do so during one of their busiest seasons—not the Fleet Action itself, but the aftermath of the Fleet Action, which typically sees dozens of medals and promotions that need to be written and approved. As of today, I’m happy to announce that the BFC has voted unanimously (minus the BFCO’s required abstention) to confirm Fleet Admiral Teylas Ramar (Vince) for an additional one-year term lasting from June 14th, 2025, to June 14th, 2026.

As in the past, I want to thank the BFC for taking its responsibility seriously. While the specific contents of BFC discussions are private, I’ll give a brief summary: the strengths that Vince brings to this position are vision and an eye for understanding when and how to tackle tough situations with the community’s best interests in mind. While many individuals have been responsible for the implementation of the many ideas that have gone into making the fleet what it is now, Vince keeps a 20,000-foot view on what’s going to be best for the organization as a whole that individual department or unit leaders can’t always do. For example, changing the weight of just one ribbon can have massive impacts on OCS, Operations, and Logistics, let alone adding in whole new systems. Vince has also cultivated a culture of staff work that is likely the most supportive it has ever been in Bravo Fleet, while also making it clear that staff are volunteers, and so we’re willing to cut off discussions that stop being productive. The discussion also had frank reflections on past challenges, as we consider how to maintain a culture of respect and accountability here. Most importantly, the leadership of the fleet has been its most stable under Vince—something you can see just by looking at the staff records or previous reports of this nature. Vince’s re-confirmation represents continuity, yes, but also our endorsement of continuing to let his ideas shape the future expansion of our organization in terms of both members and new systems.

And I’ll just let the idea of “new systems” hang in the air, and point you back to the 2025 Roadmap if you’re curious about what’s yet to come.

One last note that I would add is that this was not merely a procedural discussion. It was clear from the contributions of the BFC members that there remains genuine enthusiasm for Vince to continue in his role—the tenor not just of wanting him to continue but feeling lucky that he wants to. It’s a tough job and he’s held it for an extremely long time, not just in BF terms (again, check the staff records to see the average tenure of a BFCO before him) but in real-world terms. We’re excited to see what’s next!
