7 years, 6 months, 23 days

It’s been a little less than a year since I last wrote an announcement on this same topic, and I am pleased to announce that Bravo Fleet Command has once again confirmed Fleet Admiral Teylas Ramar, a.k.a Vince, for another term as Bravo Fleet Commanding Officer, lasting from June 14th 2023 through June 14th 2024. This vote concluded on May 5th. Normally, we would hold this discussion and vote closer to the end of his current term, but I moved the timeline up to ensure that we would not be dealing with it during the ongoing Fleet Action.

As this is one of the most important duties of the BFC, the discussion was detailed and serious. We spoke about a number of issues relating to the fleet’s future and plans for growth and expansion. From the beginning, it was the unanimous opinion of the group that Vince needed to remain in this role to finish what he has started, as he’s been the major driver of our shift away from the obsolete SIMM fleet model to our current member-centered, multi-activity organization. (I’ll refrain from naming any of the other obsolete SIMM fleets in this announcement, as last year’s announcement really seemed to rustle some jimmies out there, but I’m guessing you’re aware of the type of organization I’m comparing us to there.)

As Vince said in his recent report, our growth over the last year has been exceptional across the areas of new joins, retention, and in activity levels. I encourage you to give that report a read if you haven’t done so already. Bravo Fleet remains on a steady upwards trajectory thanks to the leadership of our BFCO, and I am happy to be able to announce that he’ll be at the helm for another one-year term.

Just for some fun with numbers: Vince has been BFCO since the near-collapse of the organization in 2019, starting the first of his now five consecutive terms on June 14th, 2019. As of today, he has been in the office for 3 years, 10 months, 23 days, which is a tremendous commitment of time and energy to anything. With his other prior stints in the role added together, he’s held the role for a total of 5 years, 6 months, 22 days, making him the second longest-serving BFCO in history. Plus 5 months and 3 days as BFXO, and 1 year, 6 months, and 28 days as TF17CO, for a grand total of 7 years, 6 months, 23 days spent on the BFC (or it’s predecessor, the BFA). Should he complete the term to which he has just been confirmed, he will have spent 6 years and 8 months leading our organization and become the longest-serving BFCO ever, and will have spent 7 years, 2 months, and 1 day as a leader in Bravo Fleet. That is not even counting roles he had lower than TFCO that aren’t on his service record.

I don’t know about you, but there is very little in *my* life that I can say I’ve spent 7 years, 6 months, and 23 days on other than the most important things in my life. (And, honestly, Vince has spent nearly as much time leading BF as I have spent working on my two graduate degrees…) We on the BFC are grateful for his leadership and continued service, which has been spread through literal decades. On the BFSS, we are especially grateful for an environment that has led to one of the most stable upper staff compositions in BF’s whole history, too.
