BFXO Report #22 – BFCO Confirmation Update

It’s that time of year again! One of the most important responsibilities I have as BFXO is to preside over the annual vote for the BFCO, should the BFCO choose to stand for an additional one-year term of office. As in prior years, Bravo Fleet Command has had this discussion and vote well in advance in the expiration of Fleet Admiral Teylas Ramar’s (a.k.a Vince) term on June 14th 2024. I’m pleased to announce that the BFC voted unanimously (minus Vince’s own required abstention) to confirm Vince for an additional one-year term lasting from June 14th 2024 to June 14th 2025.

I appreciated the seriousness the BFC took this confirmation with, as it is an important process to ensure the health of our organization. I will say that for my part, I kept my own contributions to those of a procedural nature, to preserve a modicum of distance from the vote as presiding officer, but now that those proceedings have concluded I’ll say publically that this is absolutely the right course of action for Bravo Fleet going into another year of innovation.

For those of us who were around in the Before Times, it was pretty common for BFCOs and BFXOs to have relatively short terms of maybe a few months each. (At least following the end of the reign of the second BFCO who was not operating with a particularly democratic spirit.) Vince’s tenure of 4 years, 10 months, and 21 days (as of today) is the longest in the last ten years, but one of the things I considerable to be remarkable about that is that within his time in office, he has had the two BFXOs with the longest individual tenures serving under him as well. Emily and I have both been strong supporters of Vince’s vision, and it’s telling that he’s been able to ensure so much stability in the upper echelons of the fleet in his time here, which is something that historically Bravo Fleet has not had.

There’s a lot to look forward to this year, and I’m confident that Vince will continue to lead us with strength and innovation.
