Back To Basics: Captain’s Ready Room Development

Area Creation / Development – BF Wiki article updates

The Operations Office challenges members to write a description of the following areas for their primary fiction commands.

On the BF Wiki under the article for your primary command, create or develop the section for your Captain’s Ready Room.  Entries will be judged on how much detail is included based on what someone would see (and possible hear) when they enter the room.  Including an image(s) will further assist with points.

The captain’s ready room is their office, away from all of the action on the bridge, a sanctum where they can collect their thoughts, update their log entries, speak to someone privately or just grab a quick refreshment. However, what is located in your captain’s ready room? Consider the following questions/areas when writing your description:

  • The captain’s desk – what is it made of? What does the captain keep on it?
  • Is the area where the captain meets with others a curved sofa, a set of armchairs or a small table and chairs?
  • What knickknacks, pictures or ornaments are found in the ready room?
  • How does one enter the room? Are there any windows? Which way do they face on the ship?
  • Any other exciting and noteworthy elements that a visitor would see?

Entries will be judged on how much detail is used to describe the room – making the reader really believe they understand where everything is and why. Each point will be judged out of ten, and an extra ten points will be awarded for how detailed the description is.

Criteria

  • Following the BF Wiki guidelines, you should write each entry in the third person and the past tense.
  • Entries must be a valid link to the BF wiki article. 
  • Your entry about the ready room should be no more than five hundred words.
  • You should include where notable items (e.g. photographs, ornaments, knickknacks) are located and why they are there: 10 points
  • You should describe the captain's desk (including where it is in the room, what it is made of and what is usually on it): 10 points
  • You should describe where the captain meets with guests/visitors (e.g. a set of sofas/armchairs, a table and chairs): 10 points
  • Members can use images to assist with their entries: 10 points
  • How detailed is the overall description: 10 points
  • Total points: 50

Ready Room/Briefing Room - Located on Deck 2 just behind the bridge the briefing room doubles as the captain's ready room, their home away from home. The room is not overly spacious given the relative size of a Raven-class vessel. There is a small unimposing corner desk located in the back left corner when you enter the room. The desk resembled the standard desk found in most star fleet vessels and was a light grey and the accompanying chair nestled behind the desk was a deep burgundy and a console with a 3D display was built into the right-hand corner of the desk. The rest of the room was furnished with a small table that folded into the wall just below a large display showing the star fleet logo on the right side to maximize space. Along the left wall is a series of four chairs that slide against the fall to form a small sofa below a series of shelves.

The walls were the standard grey of star fleet bulkheads along with the carpet on the floor. The shelves about the sofa are very sparse at the moment except for a scale model of the USS Daradax. The only other decorations in the Room are an artifice potted Risian Fern directly to the left of the door when someone enters and a picture of the USS Daradax with Starbase Bravo in the distance. The only other notable feature is the head located in the back right of the room behind a door.
