[Phase 3]: Resolution

Description

This is it: the fate of the Velorum Sector. Your crew has faced many hardships – protecting these people, guiding them to a new future, helping them rebuild from revolution and oppression. But all stories must end, and this one is no different.

In the three-act structure, the final act is resolution. We reach the climax as plotlines reach everything they have been building towards, as the challenges are overcome, and as characters emerge with a new sense of who they are. It often starts with the ‘dark night of the soul,’ the Ordeal in the Hero’s Journey, leads to the final conflict and how it plays out, and ends with the denouement, where loose ends are tied up and we see the story’s themes in their completed form.

Write about this resolution of your ship’s adventures in the Velorum Sector. This is deliberately broad – it might be the moment your characters are victorious over their enemy, it might be the point where they realise and reflect on what they have learned or how they have changed. The reader must understand, with this story, what the ending is – whether it plays out before their eyes, or its true meaning after the fact shines through.

Your story might address one of the following:

– How does your ship overcome the main challenge they have faced?

– How have the events in the Velorum Sector changed your characters as people?

– What is the final fate of the peoples or region of the Velorum Sector that drove your storyline?

Criteria

  • Your story should be between 2,000 and 3,000 words in length (Google Docs, not BFMS, will be used to determine word count)
  • The entry should be written in your Command’s Mission attached to the Sundered Wings Fleet-Wide Mission, and linked to in the submission. While we allow and encourage you to choose a Story from your ongoing Fleet Action fiction, only the single submitted Story will be graded and judged.
  • The Story must have been posted during the competition duration.
  • Stories from Starbase Bravo are not eligible for this competition.
  • Submitted Stories must have a single author.
  • Stories will be graded in accordance with the Bravo Fleet Fiction Rubric, which marks on the following criteria: Language, Style, & Mechanics; Adherence to Canon; Perspective; Characterization; Originality; Use of the Prompt.
