Paint me a Picture

Psyche! Got ya. Impulse buy, its actually a writing competition though, feel free to check this one out. Fairly simple and quick one.

Use your best descriptive writing to paint the reader a picture of any Star Trek landscape. Any landscape you want. But here’s the catch, you onlu got 150 words to do it.

Risa at sunset, fire caves on Bajor, smog filled spires of Kronos? Paint it with your words.

Stillness. Calm. The eye of the storm. Aftershocks of the shroud's collapse still rippled across the expanse, but here, nothing. No subspace echoes, no gravitational hum, only perfect, impossible silence. Topological flatness. A place that seemed to swallow even entropy itself.

Her people, too, were still. Harmonious. Balanced. At peace. In their relics, they saw a reality that could not come to pass. Fire, pain, and chaos. Civilizations fallen and worlds unraveled. They were its mirror, its reflection, their world an answer to the ruin of another.

Atrix, the center of the Shackleton Expanse, a reliquary of reality as the Vezda had intended, a causal strand not quite here, but not quite gone. If they could see it through the glass, what prevented the other side from looking back? The mirror trembled. The glass had to be shattered. One reality destroyed to preserve another.

What other choice did they have?

Harry stepped out of the shuttle into the warm glow of the distant sun, a blanket of humidity attacking him as the door opened. The readings and the on-screen image didn’t do the planet justice. Vegetation mimicking that of the amazon rain-forest back on Earth was everywhere, dense and showing varying colors of green. Due to the static nature of the planet, the entire planet is typically a comfortable balmy thirty-degrees Celsius. Sounds of nature humming across the landscape like a faint concert that almost no one had heard for eighty years. Sunlight streamed through the canopy that covered most of the overgrown research station with only a small opening to see the visible sky from. Nature had reclaimed most of the land researchers had cleared long ago. Vines covered the exterior of the station and wild flowers scattered throughout knee high grass covered the landing zone.

Long tendrils of vertiginous smoke, a riot of vibrant hued-color and headily gouting incense, described a euphoric haze as it issued from the pot-bellied censures that were thrust into the scorching, shifting sands – pushed by the intermittent winds. The smoke remained the only active thing moving below the slow transcribed arc of the Night Sister as she chased her incestuously chased her sibling across the morning.

The more dominant, leading binary star led the other a teasingly (but never to be requited) slow chase across the burning azure sky.

The confounding brisance of desert heat made the great temple seem so far away via the heartless, shimmering subterfuge of mirage, but in his heart he knew that their tribulation was nearing an end and that the purgatory they had suffered through the punishing desert to attain, was nearly at hand at this blessed sacristy nestled in the great desert.

Vargo II lies beneath a sun the colour of blood diluted by dust. The world itself is a mausoleum of mire and silence, its surface an oily plain where no wind dares whisper. The soil seems to brood, shifting sluggishly, reluctant to bear the weight of evil resting nearby.

There dwells Armus. A thing neither born nor dead, but distilled from the dregs of cruelty. His form is a pool of black despair, quivering with sentience, reflecting no light save that which he devours. To gaze upon him is to feel one’s soul recoil, for within that sheen lurks every rejected agony of a species that thought itself above suffering.

When he laughs, the sun and stars seem to dim. Ashamed of their illumination.

As their shuttle approached, the first thing they saw were the gleaming spires and glass domes of the campus, reflection of water on them, reflecting from the bay. They framed the infamous golden gate bridge with the rolling Marin hills beyond.
The Academy grounds blend modern technology and the lush green of Earth's landscape. Green quads dotted throughout with blossoming trees, reflective pools with pathways alive with cadets in their coloured uniforms. Shuttles land a sleek landing pads near the main entrance, the Starfleet emblem hanging proudly above the entrance way.
The air hummed with the sound of personnel transporting in and out of the facility while dozens of students chatted throughout. Observation areas a buzz with visitors, faculty and students alike watching vessels glide in and out of low orbit. Symbols of what awaits the new members of the Federations finest service in the outer reaches of the galaxy.

Rynar stood on the windswept cliffs overlooking Mak’ala, the city of his birth on Trill. The Jast symbiote within him stirred, weaving memories of seven lifetimes into this moment. Below the Great Yara River carved through Mak’ala’s glowing spires, their pearlescent domes reflecting the planet’s single moon. Terraced vineyards, heavy with symbala fruit, stretched towards the horizon, framed by the misty peaks of Mounts Keldar and Velex, where past hosts enjoyed to climb.

As the evening air cooled, iridescent insects hummed above the spice terraces. The breeze carried the scent of damp soil and spice blooms, evoking memories of Kael, Jast’s first host, who gardened these fields in his youth. Mak’ala’s vibrant pulse, its bustling markets, aancient caves, and living archives wove Trill’s soul into Rynar’s being. A timeless tapestry of present and past within him, the sight always bringing him peace.
