The Bright Side of Favoritism

Description

Sometimes we just want to show off the thing we love the most. This writing prompt asks you to pick your favorite character (or one of your favorites – we’re not the favorite police) and tell a story that showcases that character and helps your reader see why they are your favorite.

Craft a character-driven story that focuses on your favorite character and displays at least one reason why they are your favorite character. Do you display the character’s skills? Amazing sense of humor? Deep complexity? Fantastic ability to make a Samarian Sunset? Emotional vulnerability? All of the above? Or something completely different? You have creative freedom and your job is to communicate your character through story.

Details:

  • The challenge here is to craft a story where you can communicate the essence of your favorite character to someone else.
  • You may be creative and flexible in your scenario and how you present the story, but make sure it focuses on your favorite character. If you are using side characters a reader should be able to clearly recognize who the main character is.
  • You are encouraged to explore ways to make your audience connect with the character, and give the reader a reason to care for them they way you do.

Criteria

  • Stories should be submitted directly to the BFMS, and your entry should be a link to the published story. Stories should be at least 1,000 words and no more than 2,500 words.
  • Stories will be graded in accordance with the Bravo Fleet Fiction Rubric, which marks on the following criteria: Language, Style, & Mechanics; Adherence to Canon; Perspective; Characterization; Originality; Use of the Prompt.
  • This story must be created after this competition opens and before it closes, so as not to reuse any existing stories. This will be judged based on the publication date of the story within the BFMS.
  • Your story must be a single-author post, not a joint post.
