Summary

Va’Nar is one of the handful of Vodrians serving with Starfleet and is justifiably proud of the fact that he is the first so far to have graduated Starfleet Academy with a commission.

Serving as the Chief of Security aboard the USS Vega, Va’Nar presents a formidable bulwark in the protection of the ship and crew.

 

Appearance

Va’Nar is a Vodrian, a relatively obscure Gamma Quadrant race that evolved on a High – G planet that was subjugated by the Dominion and used as slave labour before they ceded from their rule after the defeat of the Dominion War.

Dwelling on a planet with over 12 times standard gravity, Vodrian’s are Mesomorphic, with tough grey-blue skin resistant to counter the mildly corrosive atmosphere of their home world, a compressed, ridged cranium and high muscle mass over a skeleton that is designed to sustain and survive excessive loads.

The result is a race whose strength and endurance in standard – G – environments is nothing short of herculean, in comparative terms. Conversely, Va’Nar does not fare well in Zero – G, where their ungainly bulk is a disadvantage and has a particular dislike of EVA (even though a specialized EVA suit has been replicated to accommodate them).

Standing some 7 ft tall, the Vodrian’s  impressive physique is such that they have to wear a special issue Starfleet utility uniform.

Personality

Vodrian’s behavior and motivations can be hard to parse for humans and other races.

A lifetime of subjugation by the Dominion has resulted in a sober race, given to natural suspicion of others and their intent and it has been difficult for Va’Nar to fit in at Starfleet – they still find many things that humans do quite perplexing and sometimes irritating.

Nevertheless, Va’Nar holds honor close to his heart and can be a loyal and powerful friend to have on your side when his trust is earned. Va’Nar strongly believes in the rule of law.
