Summary
A senior and well – respected Starfleet Captain, Raveen Manju Shavda is a veteran of the Dominion Wars and current assigned to Task Force 72 of the Fourth Fleet, in command of the Odyssey-class Heavy Explorer, the USS Hikaru Sulu.
With a strong background in First Contact Operations, Captain Shavda is a CO that evaluates the consequences of actions and makes considered command decisions, whilst being open to the insight and feedback of the officers that she has gathered to serve under her.
Raveen is married to Saagesh – a lauded Philosopher and academic who resides on Starbase 72 but travels extensively. Of the couple’s two adult children, their eldest son, Vageesh, is a civilian surgeon specializing in bio-neural augmentation therapy on Earth and their daughter Saanvi is a Midshipman currently completing the command – career track at the Starfleet Academy Mellstoxx III campus
Appearance
Raveen Shavda is a handsome woman from the Indian subcontinent in her early 50’s. She has the dusky complexion and deep, dark eyes typical of her people – with smile lines around her eyes and the edges of her mouth. Her dark hair is beginning to grey, adding her an austere aspect.
Whilst on duty, her comportment and dress is impeccable. When off duty she typically wears modern, comfortable clothing of a casual style, but also wears more traditional Indian – garb for more formal occasions that do not require a uniform, such as receptions and dinner – parties.
Personality
Captain Shavda carries herself with confidence and represents a calm and reassuring presence to her crew. Her even handedness and willingness to listen make her a particularly good choice in framing diplomatic relations, whilst maintaining partiality.
A scientist first and a commanding officer second, she has a keen and inspiring mind. Naturally inquisitive, Raveen’s work in Cultural Anthropology lead her to always consider the impact and effect of her actions on others, helping her make reasoned and informed decisions.
Raveen is a practicing adherent of the Hindu religion and whilst she aspires to maintain the principle of Ahimsa (non-violence) whenever possible – her duty as a Starfleet officer means that sometimes she has to do so in the execution of her duty. When she must, she typically seeks to do so by seeking peaceful ways of conflict resolution and punishment with the least amount of injury.
Culturally, she is a vegetarian. Raveen enjoys Yoga and meditation and looks forward to times when is able to visit planet-side location and interact with people and nature.
History
Born in 2352 AD and raised in “The Pink City” of Jaipur, India – Raveen attended Starfleet Academy’s San Francisco Campus in 2368 and graduated in 2372, commencing her career in Science Division, developing her acumen in the field of Socio – Cultural Anthropology.
She was assigned as a Junior Science officer aboard the Nebula-class Exploratory Cruiser, USS Cardinal in 2373 and was serving aboard at the outbreak of the Dominion War, that commenced later that year.
Surviving the Dominion War, in 2375 – the USS Cardinal commenced a series of First Contact missions within the Gamma Quadrant as the United Federation of Planets sought to discover more about the people and regions beyond the Bajoran Wormhole – recognizing that continued ignorance to the races and cultures in the hitherto largely unexplored quadrant of space would only serve to continue to folly that had led to the costly conflict in the first place.
After the completion of a 5 year deep – space exploratory mission, a 30-year-old Raveen was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and assigned to Chief Science Officer aboard the Sovereign-class Exploratory Cruiser, USS Hyperion in 2380.
In 2390, after a decade serving aboard the Hyperion, Raveen was promoted to the rank of Commander and transferred to the Inquiry-class Exploratory Cruiser, USS Varian Fry to serve as the next 2 years as the vessel’s Executive Officer.
In 2392 Raveen was promoted to the rank of Captain and assumed command of the Inquiry- Class vessel, USS Hotspur, serving aboard for 9 years with distinction.
In 2401 AD, in recognition of her exceptional service, Captain Shavda was assigned to rebuild and lead a replacement crew aboard the Odyssey-class capital ship, the USS Hikaru Sulu, when her original compliment suffered assimilation by the Borg Collective during the disastrous events of Frontier Day.
Captain Shavda and the crew of the USS Hikaru Sulu were assigned to duty with Task Force 72 and were deployed to the former DMZ, when the effects of ‘The Blackout’ began to compartmentalize and isolate the civilian and military assets of almost all the major Alpha & Beta Quadrant races, as subspace itself became their isolation & confinement.
