Summary

The first member of the planet Platonius to join Starfleet, Laeren Misha Sedai is the product of an ancient eugenics program that settled on Earth before moving to the planet Platonus, where they developed telekinetic abilities through ingestion of the element kironide. 10 years after the Enterprise visited Platonius, it was allowed to join the Federation under the strictest of rules regarding the use of their telekinetic abilities off planet.

Appearance

Laeren appears to be human in most respects, with a high blood content of the mineral kironide. He is Caucasian with red hair, an anomaly amongst Platonians. Average in height for a male, he keeps his body in tip top shape, not depending on his telekinesis for everything, unlike his fellow Platonians.

Personality

Usually quiet and studious, Laeren will speak his mind when needed, but most of the time he likes to observe humans and makes notes on his PADD as often as he can. He is keeping a journal of his experiences and insights to take back to his people upon his eventual return to Platonus. He is often seen with his PADD, furiously typing away at it, when not actively exploring with his fellow crewmates, as well as scanning with his tricorder.

History

Laeren (“Laer” to his friends) was recruited for his rigid control of his telekinetic abilities, as well as his curiosity. He wanted to learn far more than what was taught on Platonus, so when it finally joined the Federation, Laeren applied to Starfleet. At first, Starfleet was hesitant to allow a Platonian to join, due to their encounter with the Platonian leadership, as well as the necessity of Laeren to occasionally consume kironide, the mineral from his home planet. However, after testing, Laeren proved to be Starfleet material, and they welcomed a new member to the Academy. After 10 years in the academy, Laeren was assigned to a ship, and has risen in the ranks through his science discoveries, willingness to explore, and his unique insights into philosophy and culture gleaned from the origins of his homeworld. Laeren hopes to continue being an asset to his fellow crewmates and ship, as well as exploring the rest of the galaxy.
